Sports Grant

The PE and sport premium is extra funding from the government, designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.  It began is 2013 and consists of an annual grant over, received in two instalments. It is scheduled to continue until 2017.

Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money.

For example, we can use the funding to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers
  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with teaching resources to help them teach PE and sport
  • support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs, Change4Life clubs
  • run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in school Games
  • run sports activities with other schools.

Four Acres receives £8,000 and an additional payment of £5 per pupil.  Each year we report on how we have spent the grant and what impact it has had.  Some of the highlights from last year include:

“A fantastically successful year of competing, which resulted in Four Acres being crowned as ‘the most improved sports team’ within South Bristol”

“100% of children questioned stated that they ‘enjoy PE’”

“Last year 30% of Four Acres children participated competitively in football, tag rugby, basketball, netball, cricket, dodgeball and athletics….and  we are winning events and matches”

"Pupils from every year group representend the school in competitive sport"
