Squirrels

Class Teacher : Mrs Dobson and Mrs May

Teaching Assistant : Miss Nickless

Class Information: We are a happy and hardworking year 3 class with 28 children. Each week our learning includes: reading; writing; maths and topic. Alongside this, R.E, P.E, Spanish and computing make up our busy weekly curriculum.

Homework will be given out weekly, usually a Friday, which will include tasks in literacy, numeracy and topic work.  Please return by a Thursday morning so feedback can be given.

Spellings: Pupils will also be expected to learn 6 spellings per week. These will be given on Friday and taught throughout the week and tested throughout the unit. Pupils will be expected to practise these at home to support their class learning.

P.E. (curriculum map) takes place twice a week currently on Wednesday and Thursday.  Pupils are expected to bring in appropriate P.E kit, which should include a t-shirt, shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers or daps.

 T1: Gymnastics

Reading is a key focus in Squirrels class with many opportunities to read for pleasure throughout the day. Guided reading takes place every day with the aim of building pupils’ understanding of a variety of texts through the use of reciprical reading.

We will regularly read with pupils ensuring they have a fresh supply of books to promote a love of reading. However, as the children are now in Y3 it is their responsibility to change their reading book, we will give them opportunites throughout the week but this can also be done before and after school.

We need you: Our pupils enjoy learning and we love inspiring them to learn more, but we can only do that with help from home.  Please listen to your child read at least three times a week and encourage them to complete their homework and talk about their learning. For a complete overview of the school curriculum  and the Lower Key Stage Two overview of the year click here.

Term 1: 'Bright Sparks'

The subject focus for this topic is science and design and technology. (Topic Web.pdf) Children will be introduced to the topic through a trip to @Bristol where they will attend an electricity workshop. We will be designing and creating our own electricity posters to begin with to get a better understanding of some of the uses, sources and dangers that electricity provides!
